On Christmas Eve the Los Angeles County Arts has a Holiday Celebration FREE to anyone and everyone in the area.

The Los Angeles County Arts Commission is currently accepting short film submissions by Los Angeles County-based aspiring and professional filmmakers to feature in the 51st Annual Los Angeles County Holiday Celebration telecast.

Eligible films may be no longer than 2 minutes long and must incorporate the theme “childhood memories from the holidays.” Submissions are due on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at 4:00 p.m….Filmmakers whose short films appear on the program will receive an honorarium of $1,000 each.

So there are tons of contests in LA. Whether it’s calling in for tickets on the radio, entering a raffle, or just submitting your email on a website for a private party.

And sometimes you win. Last night I was fortunate enough to win Buzznet’s ‘Party with the Cab’ at H. Wood.

It was a private party promoting the new Sims 3 game. It had professional career counselors (I am destined to become a Ghost Hunter) a bedazzling station to make your name tag sparkle, a photo booth, popcorn, and a mini concert by The Cab.

H. Wood is a small club right outside Hollywood & Highland and the multiple rooms, maze like vibe made for a great location for the event.

I hadn’t heard of The Cab before tonight, but they rocked it and even stayed around after their show and mingled with the crowd. Honestly the evening surpassed my expectations and I can only expect future Buzznet contests and events to be at this level.

A wonderful Wednesday evening…free.
