turkey day marathons

22 Nov

So you’re officially ready to load up on all the good food this Thursday. But, I bet you don’t have a plan to burn off all those additional calories. Here’s one for you. Drumroll please……………

The Long Beach Turkey Trot!

The earlier races are already filled, but the 9:30 / 10:30 races are open. So you can sleep in a little, grab a cup of coffee and work off all the calories you’ll consume later.
45K/10K, run/walk, 9:30 a.m. OPEN
45K only, run/walk, 10:30 a.m. OPEN
4Kids 1/2-Mile Wingding, 9:40 a.m. (ages 8 & younger) OPEN 9:45 a.m. (ages 9-12) OPEN

So do something good. Then justify it with an extra piece of pumpkin pie.

Thank you for being a friend…. (There are no Thanksgiving songs, but in the theme of Thanksgiving I feel the Golden Girls theme song does the holiday justice)

halloween horrors

27 Oct

Halloween is just around the corner, and here are some great scary options.

1. Long Beach – The Queen Mary becomes spooktified as the already haunted ships becomes even more haunted.
2. Haunted Hayrides – The hayrides are moved to the Old Zoo. You know the one. It’s in Griffith Park. Empty Cages. Graffitti. It’s already has the graveyard feel, so add the Halloween vibe and you’ve got a touchdown.
3. Halloween Horror Nights – Universal takes the cake when it comes to being scared. Not only are there chainsaws everywhere, mazes that make you jump but now there are TWO terror trams.
4. Toluca Lake – Neighbors are already decking the halls with cobwebs, flashing lights, and fog machines in preparation for Sunday and trust me, you want a good neighborhood to trick or treat in this is it. However you won’t be alone. Lines are long and the neighborhood is jam packed, but with each house wanting to outdo it’s neighbor it’s a free event. With free candy.

like lobsters?

2 Sep

It’s about time I get out of the Los Angeles area. There are great towns around LA that can give you a mini vacation without making a dent in your wallet, or taking hours to get to. Long Beach is roughly two hours south of the city of stars.

The Original Lobster Festival is going on next weekend, September 10-12th and tickets range from $13 for a one day adult pass to $50 (and that includes a giant lobster)

Scrolling the site you’ll notice there will be a ton of live music at the event, and they have the kids covered with magician and other child friendly events.

In addition, the Belmont Car Show is happening the 12th. But while you’re staying local, check out these other wonderful treats Long Beach Offers:
Queen Mary
Aquarium of the Pacific

So after your Labor Day vacations head down to Long Beach to eat some lobster.
